
Davidson, NC is a community desired by outdoor and active lifestyle enthusiasts, and even though Davidson is less than 6 square miles in area size, the Town is home to a diverse inventory of Parks, Greenways and other similar assets owned and operated by the Town of Davidson, Mecklenburg County, Davidson College and other entities, providing area residents with great options for active and passive Recreation! Hobbs Hill is home to many residents who are active champions of open space, conservation and wildlife advocacy.


Hobbs Hill’s central location in the Village/Westside area of Town provides residents with convenient access to various Town Park and Recreational facilities, each with its own unique character. The Town of Davidson’s legacy Beaty Park directly adjoins Hobbs Hill Neighborhood and is the only publicly-owned natural conservation open space in the downtown Davidson area also known as the “Village” that is protected by a permanent conservation easement in partnership with the Davidson Lands Conservancy. The Lake Davidson Nature Preserve provides lakefront kayak/canoe access. And Roosevelt-Wilson Park off Griffith Street is a popular picnic and gathering spot.

For swimming and water-related recreation, Hobbs Hill residents can walk or bike to The Swimming Hole (https://swimminghole.org), a membership neighborhood pool near Downtown Davidson that offers an Olympic-sized pool and opportunity to meet/socialize with fellow Davidson residents across Town.
The Lake Norman YMCA is located just minutes from Hobbs Hill (https://www.ymcacharlotte.org/branches/north/lake-norman.aspx) in nearby Cornelius and provides various indoor and outdoor recreation and related programs. Residents can also enjoy Lake Davidson or Lake Norman thru several nearby access points in area for swimming and boating recreation year-round!

Other Parks & Recreation assets lie within reasonable biking distance, or a short 10 minute drive from Hobbs Hill – such as the much larger Abersham and Allison Farms, and Fisher Farm Parks owned by Mecklenburg County and Town of Davidson, respectively. These are large tracts of open, natural space available for walking, hiking and biking. Davidson College’s “Ecological Preserve” has miles of beautiful, multi-use walking/biking paths located a short walk from Hobbs Hill.Other available resources include the new Bailey Springs Park being developed in East Davidson, Greenways located in various parts of Town, and major regional recreational assets available or under development in the local area, including the new Mecklenburg County Northern Regional Recreational Center (http://northmeckrec.com) and Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics Center (https://hffa.com). The local Davidson area has historically been populated by many family farms, and significant rural area just minutes North and East of Hobbs Hill offers many other outdoor recreational activities like horseback riding.

The Town of Davidson’s Parks & Recreation Department, under the leadership of a newly elected Mayor/Board in 2017 and citizens’ approval in November 2017 of a $5M bond, is actively reviewing a variety of exciting, new changes to add/expand, improve and further connect the Town’s various Parks and Recreational assets thru-out Davidson for citizens.
